The Future of the Canadian Steel Industry

Peter Warrian

Presented At:
CWA Conference 2013

The steel industry and welding industries are joined at the hip. Many people, seeing what happened to Stelco, believe the steel industry in Canada is over. Not so. By 2015, the industry will have greater steel capacity than in 2007. The greatest challenge will be having the people with the right skills to work in it. There is a need for 20-30,000 people, 5-10,000 of those skilled trades. But it won鈥檛 be just more of the same. Both the steel and welding industries face major changes.
