Investigation of Defects Process Map in Friction Stir Welding
Friction Stir Welding (FSW) has become a prominent solid-state welding process utilized in various industries. However, the presence of welding defects poses a significant challenge that necessitates attention. This presentation has emphasized the importance of comprehending the causes and formation mechanisms of FSW defects to enhance the welding process and prevent defect occurrence.
Through extensive literature review and experimental investigations, common defect types in FSW, such as voids, kissing bonds, and surface defects, have been identified. Quantitatively measuring these defects remains challenging, leading to a scarcity of comprehensive data. Most existing research on FSW defects is qualitative, lacking substantial experimental evidence or practical models for industrial implementation. In our research, temperature has been identified as a critical internal variable impacting defect formation, warranting quantitative analysis.
