Recent studies have identified the vital importance of technical innovation to manufacturing competitiveness. Understanding Canadian manufacturers’ emerging materials joining technology needs is the first step toward developing unique technical innovations which create sustained competitive advantage for Canadian industry. The CWB Association in partnership with Edison Welding Institute (EWI) conducted an industry focus group exercise and an industry survey to identify emerging technology needs. The presentation will review the findings and discuss some possible technical innovations which could address the need which was identified. These results will be leveraged by CWB Association to ensure that the issues facing the welding industry are communicated to and understood by government, regulators and other key decision makers.
