Measure twice, cut once. This old adage is credence for those who build, design and maintain pipelines, facilities and the like. Seasoned workers know how inspections, strong attention to detail and flagging concerns to colleagues can save time and costs, and even lives. Members of the public and industry opposition, however, do not thoroughly understand the magnitude of the measures taken by many of those involved in constructing and maintaining pipelines. This lack of understanding can have cascading negative impacts on the industry. Furthermore, there is limited consistency in terms process or practice across the industry, making it difficult to assess and improve.
