Magnetic Pulse Welding, a Solid State Cold Welding: Principles, Simulations and Applications
Magnetic Pulse Welding (MPW) technology is known to create atomic bonding through high velocity impact of materials that can also be dissimilar. The main principle of this high quality technique is presented, associated to the descriptions of the industrial systems developed in Bmax. The work methodology leading to the welding of 2 materials will be described, explaining what the parameters of interest are and how the fast dynamic simulations including the magnetic forces are used to achieve the proper parameters. Experimental results and commercial use cases of dissimilar metals involving aluminum are presented with the associated micrographies.
