The CISC Code of Standard Practice for structural steel aims to provide guidance on current practices in the Canadian structural steel fabrication and erection industry and its clients. The 8th edition was updated by a consensus of stakeholders within the Canadian steel construction industry to document standard practices.

This will deal of how to effectively use the CISC Code of Standard Practice for structural steel as it relates to issues of design, fabrication and erection. The Code has undergone major revisions including BIM (electronic documents), AESSS, temporary bracing, conditions where lintels would be included in a steel contract, computations of units and mass and erection stability.

We will look at responsibilities and obligations outlined in the Code and use some real case examples to illustrate the critical importance of its application and effectiveness ad how the Code can be effectively used to prevent and/or resolve project disputes.
